Christmas Time, Handmade Cards

Christmas Hearts

Hello Everyone, here I am to share a 2nd card. As I said in my previous post we have been experiencing storms around our area lately so I am trying to upload what I made very late last night after the storms in our area had passed.

And as I love to play along with sketches and this sketch even though its claimed as retro I personally hadn’t come across it before so I had to play along.  And this is the creation that I made following the sketch

Christmas Hearts.jpgAs you can see I flipped the sketch on its side.  But it is so nice to be completing another Christmas Card and to also be getting through my stash of Christmas supplies. Some of which has been hanging around since I first started with scrapbooking in the early 2000’s.

Thanks for stopping by and looking at my creation. And now I would like to leave you with a thought before you leave:

Colour Play

Hello Everyone, I am so late getting this card up but here in the southern hemisphere we are in Spring and this season is looking to be a stormy one. The kinds of storms we get here are ones with lightning and lots of rain. So when these threaten we have to shut down all non-essential electrical appliances – unfortunately that includes my computer.  So I have only had this opportunity before another storm is predicted to come our way.

But any-who: onto the main reason for this post, my card creation.
Birthday Slant.jpgThis card was totally inspired by the Color Throwdown #466 of Plum, Olive and Rust. Unfortunately I don’t have those exact colours but I tried to stay within the colour families. I decided to get out my fish scale stencil and have a play with two of the colours and then used the 3rd colour to make the sentiment layer. I hope that this is acceptable for the challenge.

It was so good to drag out 1 of my many stencils and have a play around. I made another card also using these colours but I wasn’t 100% happy with the results. But I still had fun with my stencils.  I forgot how much fun this can be; I’m going to have to visit some of the old techniques and some new ones for using with stencils. This playing with colours can result in some interesting backgrounds that can be turned into or used partly on cards.

Christmas Wishes

Hello Everyone, I am happy that I am getting more of my Christmas cards made. I am very late in continuing my quest to make all of our Christmas cards for this year. I hope to get them all done but I may have to resort to buying some ((((faints))))) I hate having to do this but then again this year hasn’t exactly gone how I thought it would either.

But anywho! onto my card creation
Deer ChristmasTwo things drove this card design. The first was the October Challenge over at Christmas Cards All Year – Monochromatic Browns– I hope this is suitable!! And the 2nd was I looked at my list of card recipients and I have ended up with a lot more male names on it so I thought a card like this would be good for one of them.

All of the components of this card came from my stash. It is so nice to be using what I already have; except after popping up the main image I found that I am going to have to buy new foam tape – mine had gone really horrible –YUCK!! don’t even want to go there — I’m going to have to find a supplier because my local small craft shop which was my favorite haunt has closed its bricks and mortar shop and gone online 😦 I don’t really like going to the big box stores but at the moment if I want to walk in that is where I am going to have to go – its a sad state of how things are now.

Thanks for stopping by and looking at my creation. And now I would like to leave you with a thought before you leave:

Purple Black White Greetings

Hi Everyone. I have a 2nd card that I have made for the current Color Throwdown challenge. I decided to try an old technique of colour smooshing. I still love this technique because each piece comes out so differently. When I started this card using my Tim Holtz Distress Inks (Seedless Preserves, Wilted Violet and Shaded Lilac) I had hoped that it would be a 1 layer card but I wasn’t overly happy with the larger piece of smooshing so I decided that instead of throwing the whole thing in the bin I would try and salvage a part that I did like.

And this is the card that came out of it:
Purple Black WhiteAs you can see I didn’t end up with the 1 layer I first started making but I am happy with the end result.

Using my Hinged Stamper as I never trust myself to get a perfect image 1st time I stamped the Tulip Image from a Darkroom Door Stamp Set using My Favorite Things Hybrid Black Ink. I cut down my smooshed and stamped piece and then using my Perfect Layers tool I made a 3 step graduated mat for my focal piece. Since I ended up with a piece a lot smaller than I was intending I went rummaging in my sticker stash for something I could use around the border of the card base and I found these border stickers of black and gold and I thought they made a nice touch. The sentiment is also a sticker set from my stash as well. And that completed the card.

A Different Birthday Card

Hello Everyone. I’m in blogland again! I have been here before but life decided it wouldn’t let me continue but I was determined to get back here again.

I don’t know if I’m the only one but how do you feel about being pushed outside your comfort zone? I don’t like it at all – I feel all awkward and I also feel like I am walking on a tightrope. This is a little how I felt about the Color Throwdown challenge that is up at the moment. Don’t get me wrong I love these colors but I wanted to push myself with this combo – I don’t usually go dark hues I am usually work in the lighter hues.  So I pushed myself to go darker and I am actually happy with the results.

Since I was going outside of my comfort zone I decided to fall back on a definite favorite of mine and that is starting with a sketch and Case this Sketch came to the rescue. Then I searched my stash for a paper pack that I could use with the color challenge.  I found in my stash a paper pack from Kasiercraft called “13th Hour” and I liked some of the papers and thought I could use it for my challenges.

Here’s a close up of the card
A different Bday Card.jpgThis is a pretty simple card but I am happy with how it has turned out. I heat embossed with white for the birthday greeting and popped the center pieces up on foam tape.
